Mitochon was the brainchild of Dr. Andre Vovan, currently the Director of Critical Care at a large, premiere, Southern California hospital and an expert in creating systems of coordinated care that not only improve outcome, but also decrease cost by sharing information. In 2002, using a word document, shared drive and process re-engineering, he was able to reduce mortality in the critical care unit by 40% with minimal additional cost.
His experience formed his belief that if health care providers can freely capture clinical information and share them with each other in a timely manner, better decisions and outcomes will result.
If we are to improve health and lower cost, Health IT such as EMR/EHR and the ability to connect the providers to share information must be affordable, accessible and available to 100% of physicians and other providers.
Mitochon has chosen the advertising model as well as other alternative revenue models so it can give physicians and other providers the information technology they need, free.
